【摘要】:Watercancausethedegradationofcoatings,soknowledgeofhowacoatingresistswaterishelpfulinpredictingitsservicelife.Failureinwaterfogtestsmaybecausedbyanumberoffactors,includingadeficiencyinthecoatingitself,contaminationofthesubstrate,orinadequatesurfacepreparation.Thetestisthereforeusefulforevaluatingcoatingsaloneorcompletecoatingsystems.Waterfogtestsareusedforresearchanddevelopmentofcoatingsandsubstratetreatments,specificationacceptance,andqualitycontrolinmanufacturing.Thesetestsusuallyresultinapassorfaildetermination,butthedegreeoffailuremayalsobemeasured.Acoatingsystemisconsideredtopassifthereisnoevidenceofwater-relatedfailureafteraspecifiedperiodoftime.Resultsobtainedfromtheuseofwaterfogtestsinaccordancewiththispracticeshouldnotberepresentedasbeingequivalenttoaperiodofexposuretowaterinthenaturalenvironment,untilthedegreeofquantitativecorrelationhasbeenestablishedforthecoatingorcoatingsystem.ThetestapparatusissimilartothatusedinPracticeB117,andtheconversionoftheapparatusfromsaltspraytowaterfogtestingisfeasible.Careshouldbetakentoremovealltracesofthesaltfromthecabinetandreservoirwhenconvertingfromsaltspraytowaterfogtesting.1.1Thispracticecoversthebasicprinciplesandoperatingproceduresfortestingwaterresistanceofcoatingsinanapparatussimilartothatusedforsaltspraytesting.1.2Thispracticeislimitedtothemethodsofobtaining,measuring,andcontrollingtheconditionsandproceduresofwaterfogtests.Itdoesnotspecifyspecimenpreparation,specifictestconditions,orevaluationofresults.Note18212;AlternativepracticesfortestingthewaterresistanceofcoatingsincludePracticesD870,D2247,andD4585.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityofwhoeverusesthisstandardtoconsultandestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
